PROBLEM There are so many social networks and supporting apps to keep track of these days it becomes difficult for people to keep tabs on the content and people they care the most about. WHY? I created this project because of my strong intrest in User Experience, UI, and Visual Design for mobile and website based platforms. I wanted a chance to create a better user experience for something we all interact with on a daily basis such as social media. The amount of online content created by we as individuals and those we interact with is expanding exponentially. It is becoming more difficult to navigate and curate that content. This theoretical app project will allow me to explore the possibilities that could help better tailor that content to the user some day, and also help me better educate myself in two fields I am very passionate about: People and Technology. WALKTHROUGH DISCOVERY GENERAL QUESTIONS: Personal survey of my social networking experience. Where am I overwhelmed? What content matters most to me? What would I do differently personally? As a designer my needs are different. Focus on the users needs not my own assumptions. • Creating a survey to pinpoint what content matters most to the social networking user.  • Survey the usual paths/features that the social media app user uses daily? • How would they group their friends together? • How would they group their social networks together? • What kind of options would they like to see?  • What kind of options would they assume would be there? - Blind questions / Stickies game! - Focus on this later on.  TECHNOLOGICAL AUDITS: • Technological Audit of Existing Algorithms - How do they function and determine the order of importance of user information? • Technological Audit of Social Networks with apps that carry across multiple platforms. Is Windows 8 practical? If vector based, responsive design could / should it carry over? • Technological Audit of Future Technology that could be used by social networks. ie. sensors, connecting house hold devices, augmented reality?  PERSONAL PROJECT GOALS/QUESTIONS:  • Future Proofing -  How can this still function 5-10 years from now? • Ambition - Is this ambitious enough? What am I offering thats going to break the mold? • Innovative - How can I create an innovative new experience? Is this through the concept? Through a new user experience? The final product of this project is a printed book which can be viewed here. I renamed Google: Solutions because Google provides a diverse selection of products and services for individuals, businesses, and students. By rebranding Google as Solutions I have been able to better describe accurately just what Google does for their users. The brand mark itself is that of a box unfolding. Opening itself up to new possibilities and and creative solutions. Which lends itself to my new tagline: Outside of the box. Brand Attributes: Diverse, Innovative, and Personal I have also a dynamically branded Solutions mark for employees around the world. This has been accomplished with a system that takes into account each employee or offices name, age, location, and department in which it operates. With that information I can create a mark that is not only distinctly Solutions but unique and reflects the core of what Solutions is as a company. Analysis of Google and direct competitors marketshare adjustments over the last 7 years. Audience research over what makes up the "average" Google user from each of the three categories: Small Business, Students, and Individuals. This process is documented in my brand book which can be found at the bottom of the page. SOLUTION Solutions is a company that provides exactly what the name says: Solutions. A lot of people can provide you with answers but today creative solutions are key. PROJECT During the summer between my Junior and Senior year I was fortunate to intern with Mutual Mobile in Austin, Texas. I was allowed to create a self-directed intern project based on where I could fulfill a need within the company. I chose to create an updated version of the basic existing MM Directory Application. I began my process by completing an audit of the existing app and proposing my changes. I spoke with developers and fellow designers frequently to ensure what I was creating was on target and possible. GOALS My goal was to create a new mobile web application to replace the existing iOS app that would allow everyone within the company to find and contract one another easily but also to allow employees to discover when new employees join the MM team and get to know them. By including and creating a trivia section employees can get to know one another through a department based trivia game in which they can score points for getting to know their coworkers better. animated video. PROCESS - Selecting the kind of community we wanted to work with. - Research about the material. - Created a series of posters showing our research and the problem that we had discovered that we would be solving. - Wireframing and style guide creation prior to designing. PROJECT GOALS MOTI is an educational ecosystem created by my project partner Michael Armstrong and myself. I created the iPhone, iPad, and ID designs and he created and animated the 3D globe, earth explorer award, and Web HUB. The primary goal of this project was to create a community in which we could facilitate better communication between parents, teachers, and students. Through our research we have discovered that 6th grade has been determined to be the moment in which there is a dramatic shift towards a lack of communication between those invested in a child's education. The secondary goal of our project was to create an application in which students of different learning styles would be able to discover their individual learning style, celebrate this diversity, and also tailor an educational system to that individual student. In our scenario Kevin learns best through a physical hands on approach. Will staring at a book allow him to really get involved and invigorated about a class like Earth Science? It simply won't do. We can't allow schools to place the blame on the student when the material hasn't been presented in a way to actually capture the imaginations of students today. Moti, will allow Kevin to interact with that same content in a way that fosters exploration and physical interaction. You will see this in our video below. The course work acts like unlock able content to encourage exploration and growth. Kevin Smith is a 6th grade student in Gloria Jones's Earth Science class. She has assigned the Earth Explore unit to the class. Kevin who learns best with the Physical learning style (which has been discovered through the use of the app) will be able to complete this unit in a style that has been tailored to him. Michael Armstrong) after Kevin has selected Expand on the Earth Explorer Unit and setting the iPad down on his desk it startes projecting the course work in which he explores the layers of the Earth. TEACHER - IPHONE This Teacher app allows for the teacher to create stronger communication with the students parents and also facilitate needed encouragement for her 6th grade students.
